OUR MOHAIR STORY

Our Mohair is woven in New Zealand by an acclaimed boutique weaving mill for Lands Downunder, whose technique is little changed from romantic Victorian times. After each blanket or throw has been woven, it is then brushed 4 times using a natural and unique finishing process. Hundreds of dried seed pods called ‘teasel heads’ brush and lift the Mohair fiber with its delicate natural spikes. More gentle than the commercial brushers other manufacturers use, this wonderful antique finishing process creates a luxurious high pile and soft hand, enriching the visible beauty of its woven texture.

The luster quality associated with Mohair is an important characteristic. Luster allows the fiber to readily absorb dye and to sustain brilliant color variations that resist fading by time or hard wear.

CARE AND CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Mohair is a natural, luxurious fiber that dries well and resists shrinking. Unlike wool, Mohair has no scales. A vigorous shake will dislodge most dirt particles.

WASHING:

Soak in tepid water using mild detergent recommended for washing wool. Gently agitate by hand to dislodge any dirt particles. Do not agitate unduly. Rinse in clean, cool water and spin to rid excess water. A small amount of fabric softener can be used if desired.

Hang over a line or lay flat to dry. (Mohair dries quite quickly.) When dry, a brisk shake or brush will restore the pile.

DO NOT TUMBLE DRY.

DRY CLEANING:

Your Mohair article can be dry cleaned by a reputable drycleaner.
